Balangingi

Nosebleed. Xoo seems to be a standard teenager who lives boringly like everyone else, but unknown to people in his surroundings is what happens in his head—philosophizing about things average people would deem mundane, down to the minutest detail. One day, he is forced to attend a blind date. To avoid turning off his date, he struggles to suppress his intellectual side. This short film gives a peek to that minority in Philippine society who are unlikely to survive socially by being themselves—the Filipino intellectuals. Or as laymen would call them: Nerds! As parents call them: Pilosopo!

Pamagrebeldi

Rebellion. A poem recognizing the importance of rebellion in historical progress.

Pamagrebeldi, nung dian keng kabaldugan
Ing mumuna kung ibiye, pamakilaban
E pamamintu king nung nanu’ing darasan
Ambuski mabinyagang makasalanan

Rebellion, if I'd be asked to define it / I'd say firsthand it's declaring battle / Disobeying what we were born into / in spite of being christened as sinners

Ing tau nung lalon tutu yang rebeldi
King kabilian na e kuntentung palagi
Anggang mate ya e ya magisan buri
Kunan na king pangimut o king pangadi

Man is a natural rebel / He is never contented / never-ending desires up until death / which he satisfies through efforts and prayers

Dati darapat basi king sálang atiu
Panyatang ning bengi, ala na, matudtud
Dapot inyang ayimbentu ne ing sulu
Lumbug ya man ing aldo, manakit, agyu

Available light used to dictate man's work / for when night crept in, it was slumber time / but when artificial light was invented / he could see even after sundown

Dati alipan ya ning temperatura
Nung malisangan man batan na ing dusa
Ngeni makágawa neng sariling dimla
Bista man kilub na mu ning silid na

He used to be slave of temperature / heat waves he can only endure / but today he can create his own cool / even though just cramped in his room

Dati makakulung mu king panimanman
Na ning tau ing kayang ababatiawan
Ngeni microscope para king protozoan
At telescope para king meto sikluban

He used to only see things / his eyesight is capable to reach / but today there's the microscope for the protozoan / and the telescope for the heavens

Dati ing utus na ning pekapun dili
Iya mu ing pamintuan, ala nang sasabi
Oneng ‘nyang ding makariking míkapáli
Uli ring rebeldi, sistema, mewaksi

Then, the order of the most high / was to be obeyed without objection / but when the underdogs had enough / the system was destroyed by the rebels

Nanu wari’ng sangkap ning pamagrebeldi
Bakit parati ta’yang daraptan ini
Kasi pin ing tau patye ‘tin yang buri
Suátan ne ing kasalungsungan a bili

What anyway is the element of rebellion / Why do we always do it / It's because when man wants something / he'll criticize the prevailing conditions

Nung alang rebeldi isipan mu na mu
Makananu ya mong sumulung ing yatu
Nung kapanatilian mung lagi ing atiu
Mistula ta’ng yelu, alang pamagbayu

Think about his: without rebels / how will the world run forth / for if only preservation existed / then we're frozen and unchanging

Ding mámagrebeldi ila pin ding atiu
King makapalalam a puestu king yatu
Nung nu karin matbud ya ing pangatau
Makasalale king upaya ning datu

Those who rebel are those / who are in the lower ranks of the world / where one's humanity is shaky / and dependent to the datu's authority

Ding sasalangsang karing mámagrebeldi
Ila pin ding sablang manyaman na bili
Anti mo ing amanung sadyang mepiling
Maging pambansang salita na ning RP

Those who oppose the rebels / are those enjoying the present system / like that language that was chosen / to be the national language of RP

Kalupa da pa ring pekapupugayan
King sikat a istilu ning pamaglalang
Nung e mak'wangis king karelang gagawan
E malyaring e da ka pamasibasan

And let's not forget the very cited / and well-known styles of art / which if you try to deviate from / you are sentenced to stoning

Sara-sarili tamu kapaniwalan
Ing mayap keka, karela kamulangan
Ing atin mu keti maina at masikan
Samsáman tamu mu angga king kayarian

We all have beliefs / What's moral for you is insanity for them / There's only the weak and the strong / fighting for space endlessly

Ing tinggasing kailangan nang alampasan
Ning metung a taung ating lalabanan
Ila pin ding pamansag da ring keraklan
Terorista, salbahi, pulus karokan

The obstacles that must be overcome / by rebels / are the demonizing labels / terrorist and savage, utmost evil

Nung king laban da, king tauli mangamúti
Karing libru, ila, mangasalibabi
Dapot nung magtagumpe la ring rebeldi
Kanita, kriminal la, ngeni, bayani

If they eventually fail in the battle / they will be filthy in books / but if they emerge triumphant / then they were criminals, now they're heroes

Mensahi ibat kang Koïchiro Matsuura...

Message from Mr Koïchiro Matsuura, Director-General of UNESCO, on the celebration of 2008, International Year of Languages. Dr. Joey of SOLFED Philippines asked me to translate the English version into Kapampangan. I did my best! The intellectual level of Kapampangan was tested in this translation job. Just goes to show that Kapampangan is not yet ready to enter the world of social science. We'll get there eventually.

Pakibat Kang Aristotle

Answer To Aristotle. A poem expressing my view regarding Aristotle's claim of art as imitation of reality. For me, an artist is one who puts under his authority the fate of a piece of reality. He can either copy or distort it.

Sabi nang Aristotle ing kalalangan kanu
Pamakiapus ya king nung nanu ing tutu
Nung itang pintor agulis na kang saktu
Magaling yang máglalang, tuneng talentu

Art according to Aristotle / is imitation of reality / if a painter can draw you perfectly / then he's excellent and talented

Ing talasulat makan'ta ya mu naman
Lilikas king tinta't papil ing katutuan
Ing mánarti, kaya namang pákiapusan
Pangimut da ring tau't kapanamdaman

It's the same for the writer / who channels truth through ink and paper / What the actor imitates on the other hand / are the actions and feelings of people

King panlawe ku naman adua ya klasi
Ing kalalangan o ing yausan dang arti
Kopyan mu ing realidad, wa, malyari
O kaya naman, sangkan meng siran ini

For me though there are two types / of kalalangan, of what they call art / You can either copy the real / or intentionally break it

Suluan me ing lugal na ning pelikula
Bang mas masanting yang lunto king camera
Mebayu ya'ing sulu, e ne natural 'ta
Kutnan ke i Aristotle ngana paya

Light the movie location / for it to register well on camera / which makes it already unnatural / What does Aristotle think of that?

Gáwa kung nobela, ing pekabida ku
Sobra kabiasa, masikan ya pang tau
Malasak ya nung tumbukan ne ing batu
Ala namang makanita king biyeng tutu

In a novel I'll make, the hero will be / extremely bright and strong / he can shatter boulders with his jabs / which you will never see in real life

Dapot nung aku ing kutnan sanu'ing kaku
Karening aduang klasing sinambitla ku
Ilig ku ing pamakiwangis king tutu
Oneng salesen ku pa't gawang malagu

But if I'd be asked / what type of art I do / It's basing things on the real / but I add some embellishments

Uling ding keraklan e da papansinan
Ing mapinu at purung-purung katutuan
Sangkan da, "Aldo'ldo akakit ku na iyan
O ba't para ken ing oras ku sayangan?"

For many ignore / the very pure truth / They reason, "Everyday I already see that / why waste more time with it?"

Inya naman ing ilig kung gagawan ku
Daklutan ing katutua't saka ibalut
King ulas a paniglawan da ring tau
Bang kan'ta mo isipan dang ating bayu

So what I love doing / is snatching reality and wrapping it / with a blanket that will astound people / for them to think there's something new

Pantasya ya mong bala ra ing melalang
Bagya da' balung ing sangkap na katutuan
Pangabagya mu karelang ayisipan
"King tuneng biye malilyari talaga iyan"

They may think it's fantasy / but little do they know, truth is the ingredient / Later on they'd realize / "It happens in real life"

Kang Aristotle, ini ing pakibat ku
King "imitation of reality" kanu
Bilang máglalang ing kalma na ning tutu
Tuneng makapalalam king upaya mu

This is my answer to Aristotle / to his "imitation of reality" claim / As an artist, the fate of reality / is nothing but a slave to your power

Status / Manong

Status

YUBS: Can I now put "In a Relationship" in my Friendster status?

CLACLA: "It's complicated" is enough for now.

Manong (Awkward)

CLACLA: Which do you prefer: I pretend laughing when your jokes are awkward, or I just ignore you?

YUBS: Just ignore me. You look cuter doing that.

Ing Maskuladung Katmu King Tattoo

The Tattoo-Laden Muscle Man. Poem about surviving in an oppressive place and knowing the right strategy in ending oppression.

Ketang kulungan a keni e marayu
Iya ing giginuan da itang maskuladu
King balat na mánukluan la ring tattoo
Ating dragon, agila, ampong demonyu

In a prison not far from here / he's the god, the muscle man / with tattoos squatting all over his skin / there's a dragon, an eagle, and a demon

Balang sabian ning ginu iya'ng pámintuan da
Ring mangalating mengasukul king selda
Istung trip na' kabud pamugbugan na la
Mipalili kang lawe kaya, mate ka

God's orders were strictly obeyed / by the little people imprisoned there / If he felt like beating up, he did / Try glaring at him and you're dead

E ra ne man maibug 'sumbung karing pulis
'Tang minunang sinumbung mesaksak lapis
'Tang metung pa, king pataram, 'Nu ku, daplis
Ding karelang pangadi kabud lalaris

They can't tell the police about it / as the first who did was stabbed with a pencil / Heavens, another, almost killed with a dagger / Proof their prayers are just rotting

Ing biasa iya pin na i Lucas Salangsang
Malati mu dapot masiri't matapang
Ketang maskuladu dinian pakinabang
Ing sarili; gulut na pekámasayan

Lucas Salangsang was the clever lad / he was small but smart and brave / He made himself useful to the muscle man / he massaged well his back

Inya i Lucas ali na ne pángayan
Ambuski pa nu karin, iya, mákádalan
Basta bengi-bengi masahing manyaman
E salanan timiran pati bumbunan

Making Lucas not prone to his bullying / permitted to pass anywhere / as long as there was massage each night / not missing even his cowlick

Kabang ala pang pag-asa ibat kilual
Kabang mangabuangis la pa ring animal
Kumabiye ya i Lucas king correctional
Uling kinampi ya king pekamasikan

While hope is still unseen from outside / while the animals are still all wild / Lucas will survive in the correctional / for he rubbed elbows with the fittest

Patye 'la pang pamagbayu ing meganap
Iyadya't 'salikut na ne ing panatdak
Potang mamasayan na ne ing marawak
Pangabagya mu 'tin nang dayang papatak

But if no change happens / he will prepare and hide the dagger / and minutes after massaging evil incarnate / blood will drip

Ing maskuladung katmu king tattoo, bagsak!

The tattoo-laden muscle man, down!

Baták La Ring Poesya Nang Eli

Eli's Poems Rock. No matter how renowned a poet is, he and his works will never be appreciated by those who cannot read. Don't expect to be honored by people who cannot grasp your field.

O’t keganaganang akarungut kung máglalang
“Baták la ring poesya nang Eli!” sabi ra ngan
Bang alang gulu ali na ku mu sasalangsang
Pota pa sa, aku, karelang panampalingan

Why do the artists I often encounter / unanimously say "Eli's poems rock!" / To evade conflict I just remain passive / for I could be slapped several times if I objected

‘Nyang misan dinalan ya king baryu mi i Eli
Miyayaliwang máglalang tambing pinulayi
Papunta king tayimik at malukang balen mi
Ikeng e matas pegaralan: “Nanu mo ini?”

Eli passed by our barrio once / making different artists rush / to our tranquil and poor town / We who have not been educated: "So what's all this?"

Oneng ing pulosador a Gus Camaya, atiu
King e malaut, pupulosa ya’t babasultu
Abe ing gitarista nang sikat a i Moo Moo
Keta no man migsipulandit ding maldang tau

But polosa singer Gus Camaya was also around / performing polosa and basulto over there / accompanied by his famous guitarist Moo Moo / and the masses ran to watch them

Merine ring máglalang king dintang a poeta
Kagaling na pâ, ding tau nu la memamunta
“Pablasang ala lang pegaralan ding dibpan-na
Inya burian da pa ing pulosang alang kuenta

So the artists felt bad for the poet who arrived / He's a great poet, but where did the people go / "They're uneducated fools / that's why they prefer the trash that is polosa

Ali ra balu nung sanu ing tutung masampat
Laman ning pulosa mányampukaki king dinat
Putanaydanang mása mituran sanang kildap”
Ing amanu da ring sasamba kang Eli Lacap

They can't tell which has quality / polosa is a bunch of filth / Motherfucking masses, may lightning strike them" / Word of the worshippers of Eli Lacap

Itang metung a pintor linapit ya kanaku
Lukut-kile na kung pek’sabian, kitang na kaku
“Marakal nong ligligan, pati sumangid laut
Pekiabayan nang Eli at iya ing sinambut

One painter approached me / with crumpled brows he asked me / "Many local and international contests / have been won by Eli in the past

O’t kinyanan ye mu, e ye man dugu seganan
Pigdiwatan ye pa ing mámulosang bayaran”
Pekibat ku kaya, “Ala kaming pegaralan
'Nya rugu e ke biasang mamásang kawatasan”

Why did you guys ignore him, no warm welcome / and you chose to adore this sellout polosa singer" / I told him, "We're not educated / that's why we can't read poetry."

Patianak

Patianak (a baby vampire). Poem about the creation of myths to promote an ideology.

Alas sais pa mung sisilim linub ne bale
I Boy Taloti agya’pang mamialung la pa
Tag-tagan, sálikutan, patinteru’t touching ball
Kayabe ra ding kaluguran king Villa Gloria

It's just 6 PM but he already went inside / Fraidy-cat Boy, even though he was still playing / tag, hide-and-seek, patintero and "touching ball" / with his friends from Villa Gloria

E ne buring dasan alas syeti ing tanaman
King mula rang wawangis kakewan king kasukal
Ketang pun ning kaymitu a matas pa king bubung
Patianak kanung mabuangis ing keta mánagal

He didn't want to encounter the tree at 7 PM / there in the garden that's messy as a jungle / for from the branches of the tall star apple tree / a vicious patianak is keen on chasing

Kanita kasi ‘nyang minuli yang alas otsu
Nganang indu na kabang papakit ing sugat na
“Tung, patye alas syeti atin palang patianak
Malutu ya mata’t saka magdatun king mula

Once upon a time he went home at 8 PM / his mother told him while showing her wound / "Son, a patianak appears around 7 PM / with red eyes, staying in the garden

King taram da ring kayang ipan kayatan na ka
Sipsipan na ka daya anggang ika mibulang
Kayi ‘dala na ka king yatu ring laman labuad
Laklakan da kang mabiye ring mangasurang asuang”

He'll bite you with his sharp teeth / suck your blood until you pass out / then he'll bring you to the elemental world / where ugly monsters will devour you

Ibat inyang inamanu ning indu na ita
Meranun neng mumuli ing mataloting anak
At king makabang panaun mebiye ya king takut
King mula rang masukal, tuknangan ning patianak

Ever since his mother told him that / he began coming home early / and for a long time he lived in fear / of the messy jungle, the habitat of the patianak

Anitang Malagnat

Fever-Struck Anita. When a person gets a cold from another person and the sickness gradually worsens due to the person's neglect and his constant blaming of the source of virus, who is to blame? The one who infected, or the one who didn't do anything about his own sickness?

I Anita Sibal iya'ng pakilala ku kekayu
Mapandilu't malinis, tutung maingat a tau
Exercise kagising, balanced diet ngan pati ugtu
Mipawasan bagya gulut, manalili neng baru

Let me introduce to you Anita Sibal / bathing often and a really hygienic person / exercising every morning, following a balanced diet / changing shirt after perspiring a bit

Binisita ya misan itang Atsi nang Anita
Baradu ya pu busbus arung, kuku-kuku ya pa
E na apansin Anita, ati ne king arap na
"A-ching!" ngana ning Atsi, asingap ning dalagita

Anita's elder sister visited once / she had clogged nose and coughed often / Without Anita noticing, she was already in front of her / "Ha-choo!" the elder sister went, and the younger one inhaled it all

Bukas, oyta na, mebayat ya katawan ing wali
Bungad nea' naman bosis at ing balat na mapali
Tambing linub king isip na, meyawa ya kang Atsi
O't kasi e ne ikit lalapit napun ing alti

The day after, the younger sister was feeling weak / her voice was distorted and her skin was hot / She concluded at once she got it from Atsi (elder sister) / Why did she not see the bitch approaching yesterday

Penyumpa ne pu ing Atsi na king ikua nang salun
Kasalanan na kanu o't pati iya míkasipun
Atiti mu ne ing ebun king mapali nang tundun
Panulung lagnat, I Anita matamad yang mantun

For that she cursed her Atsi more than once / she said she's the reason she got a runny nose / One can fry eggs on her hot nape already / Anita was too lazy to look for some medicine

Kalabas ning atlung aldo, ay, ginrabi ing sakit
Nang Anitang e magigisan sipun a pupusit
Ing Atsi na pánagkasan ne pa mu ring pasitsit
"Ba't kasi binisita ya pa ing tontang malarit!"

Three days after, she became worse / her nose won't stop producing mucus / she still cursed Atsi even just in whisper / "Why did the stupid prick have to visit?"

Ing kutang ku tungkul king salun nang Anita Sibal
Ninu pu ing kekatamung dapat pamarsalanan
Ing menawa kayang babaing ibat keta kilual
O ing másakit a, ing sarili, matamad uluan

My question now regarding the sickness of Anita Sibal / who, ladies and gentlemen, must we blame / the lady from outside who passed to her the disease / or the sick person who was too lazy to heal herself

CLACLA: Yubs, please kill the sadness within my heart.

YUBS: How? I am unhappy as well. Let's just mourn together.

Ing Upaya Ning Talasulat

The Power of a Writer. A poem about why the ability to write and engage in contributing to literature are a great blessing.

Nung lalawen tamu king panimanman ning Apung Ginu
Ing upaya na ning nanu man makasalaleng tutu
King kagiwan nang taginan ing kaya makapalibut
At gawan na pang kapaki-pakinabang keti yatu
Anti mo ring keraklan karing balu tamung tanaman
Dirian dang silbi ing gabun, aslag ning aldo, at danum
Pati pangisnawang tau, nung kekatamu kamandag
Ila sisingapan dang malalam, karela e lasun

If we internalize God's point of view / the power of anything truly depends / on its ability to alternate its environment / and make it useful for the world / like most of the plants we know / that give use to the earth, sunlight, and water / What man exhales, if to us is poisonous / they breathe it thoroughly, to them it's not toxic

King Gerona na mu pin ketang lalawigan ning Tarlac
Ating pipanganan karin, Isdaan ing kayang lagyu
Pánakitan da ing mua ring tau, karela mamayad
Para mamasibas platu kabang mánagkas taksiapu
Sukat mung ring kabalenan pati aliwalas diren
Dang pakinabang; espasyu mu ing karelang puhunan
Kukua lang abli karing bisang manyabit patalastas
‘Nya ring negosyanti pati espasyu pisasamsaman

In Gerona in the province of Tarlac / there's an eatery there called Isdaan / which earns off the anger of people who pay / just for breaking plates while cursing "taksiapu" / Wonder that even cities make use of space / which is their major capital / they earn from people who wish to advertise / Explains why businessmen fight over space

Dapot pangaratang naman karing tau keti sulip
Nung atin ku man yausan bukud iya pin ing talasulat
Pauli ning kayang upayang masakit apantayan
Nung pagisipan me ping malalam tutung makagulat
O ninu pa ta karing sablang mabibiye kening yatu
Makikagiwan dian pakinabang ing keganagana
Puhunan mu kabud kabiasnan king metung a amanu
Mapagumasid a pusu’t isip, papil ampong tinta

But when it comes to mortals on earth / I would say a writer is most distinct/ for his ability hard to surpass / if you think about it, it really is shocking / What living creature on earth / is capable of giving use to everything / His sole capital consists of wisdom and words / an observant heart and mind, paper and ink

Ing metung a talasulat ding anggang árapan king biye
Mayumu man o masanting, mabanglu man o mabuluk
Mabakanti ya mu oras makalalang neng salese
Nung magaling ya pa, ay, agyu na kang awitan buntuk
Daptanan me mang karawakan, laraman meng maragul
Sapituan me mang masikan, ita ngan adian nang silbi
Ing anggang kapalpakan na manibat pa ‘nyang kebaitan
Ganakan na mung misan, makapanyulat na yang tambing

Every thing that a writer encounters in life / sweet or pretty, fragrant or stinking / he only needs vacant time to properly create / and if he's good, ay, he can influence minds / Do him harm, lie to him big / slap him hard, and he can make use of those / Every failure he has done since birth / can be turned into writing once recalled

Nung bisyu na’ing miminum, pati ing pamipangunyuran
Ukuman ne man ning meto ketawan bilang salbahi
E bali; pangauli na, pantunanan na mung santing
Ing daraptan na at saka na ipoesya king papil
Kuentu ning kaluguran, saingsing ning kayang kasaman
Ing balita king radyu, pati katak nang Kris Aquino
Tipunan ngan king memorya’t idapuk king kamalayan
Lalangan na king MS Word pota nang misan a aldo

Even if his vice is drinking, even constant sex / even if humanity judges him a savage / it doesn't matter; when he comes home, he will just search for beauty / from his deeds and write down poetry / The story of a friend, the complaint of a hated person / news from the radio, even Kris Aquino's litanies / he collects them in his memory and keeps them in his consciousness / which he will animate through MS Word one day

At potang ing realidad makasawa’t alang kule
Gamitan ing waga, mapaglalang a isip paganan
Migut inspirasyun pati king pantasyang agyang dirit
E mu isip-isipan malyari keti kapilan man
Akit mu pati ing ala agyu nang saksakanan biye
At makapatalakad ya pa ping yatu nang sarili
Karing nobela kontroladu na la ngan ding gaganap
Kalinangan a pinupul na ‘bat king kayang paligid

And when reality is boring and colorless / he employs his imagination, his creative mind / he draws inspiration from fantasies that not once / will you think can happen in real life / He can even give life to nothingness / and can even build a world of his own / He controls all his characters in his novels / Beauty he harvested from his surroundings

E ya mu king mílabas malyaring manyaklung istorya
At ali ya rin king ngeni mu malyaring magumasid
Ding posibling maganap king bukas apakinabangnan
Nostradamus, Herbert Wells ding ditak a malyaring ‘sambit
Ing kesikan na pang upaya ning metung a susulat
Obra na makikagiwan yang mabiye kabang panaun
Ambuski pa mete ne ing mengudta atiu pa mu rin
Anting bining daragul ding kalalangan nang dinaun

The past is not his sole source of stories / the present is not his sole object of observation / Even the possible future, he can make use of / Nostradamus, Herbert Wells are a few examples / Another point of strength of a writer / is the ability of his work to live long / Even after the death of the maker, it's still alive / like germinating seeds through time

At ngening panaun nung nu ing pamiyuyugnayan da
Ring marakal a sosyedad sisikan uli ning IT
Gawa ning talasulat aparala ne Amerika
Asable ne Internet anti ring dakal a MP3
At dening anggang kukudta ning metung a talasulat
Makikagiwan lang magpagalo isip da ring tau
Nung pati kiliti ring sablang mámasâ kayang balu
Agyu nong bayuan biye gamit ing masanting a amanu

And today when the connection between / many societies is strengthened by IT / a writer can send his work to America / upload through the Internet like many MP3s / And all these things written by the writer / can control the minds of the people / If he knows how to connect with his target audience / he can change their lives using words of beauty

Ini ing upaya ning metung a biasang talasulat
Upayang masákit sukdan, upayang e ra tanggapan
Kalam a malyaring e balu ‘buski ning makitagle
Upayang king yatung ini e makaying papansinan
Ing kawatasan ku pung ini ing kayang pakinabang
Gisingan la kaladua ring kapara kung talasulat
Ipabalu ku karela ing tatalanan dang sikan
Gamitan da sang masalese para makapamulat

This is the power of a competent writer / power that is hard to measure, power they won't accept / a gift now even known to the owner / power that's often neglected in this world / This poem of mine, it seeks / to awaken the souls of my fellow writers / make them aware of the force they possess / May they use it to open minds

Biye Keni Yatu

Biye Keni Yatu (Life In This World)

YUBS: This is the song I dedicate to you, my dear. It's a song by the band Istukas Over Disneyland. Ahem... (sings the song) Mouths shut, eyes closed. We pretend to be blind with the things we see. Ears, they're deaf. We do nothing... How does the lyrics go from there again?

To listen to the song featured:

Atlung Bábai

Three Women. A poem about three women with varying relationships with men. Norma leads the typical housewife life. Magda's survival and economic progress are rooted on offering her sexual service to men. Felicia, the wealthy and powerful one, uses the wealth she has acquired to preserve her superiority over her male servants and escape being chained to a man by adopting a child, i.e., "procreation" using wealth alone.

Keti king balen atin kung kilalang bábai
Atlu la dapot ali la para-para klasi
Ding piulian da rening atlu mikakawani
Miyayaliwa ing ugne ra karing lálaki

Here in this town I know women / three women, but they belong to different types / They come home separately / they relate to men differently

Ing mumunang babai ing kayang lagyu Norma
Kanita linuban ning lalaki ing bale na
Kayi kaibat ning siam a bulan kabirabira
Anak ing akit mung mamialung king kayang mula

The first woman is called Norma / whose house was penetrated by a man in the past / after nine months suddenly / one would see kids playing in her garden

Kadua naman Magda ing kekatamung iyaus
Dakal lang lalaki ring king bale na tataglus
At bista man e la maluat mágdatun ding diablus
Máging yang mabandi ing makisusung matilus

The second one is to be called Magda / who lives in a house where many men proceed / and even though the devils don't stay long / the pointy-breasted lady becomes wealthy by the minute

Tauli karening bábai Felicia ya lagyu
Ding kasabi na mung lálaki ring ortelanu
Nung ali no man tuburan dinan no mung sueldu
Ding ának a mámialung kilual inampun no mu

Let me introduce to you Anita Sibal / bathing often and a really hygienic person / exercising every morning, following a balanced diet / changing shirt after perspiring a bit

Deti ring ámanuan kung atlung klasing bábai
Makiyantak ngan oneng miyayaliwa bili
E la miyayalas pangaratang king lálaki
O Kababainan, kenu biye ing kapad mung dili

These are the women I said belonged to three types / they had vaginas but they vary in condition / they are not homogeneous when it comes to men / O, womankind, whose life do you want to take on

Mau Ya I Mappi

Mappi's Thirsty. A poem about viewing things as part of a process versus viewing things as static objects that don't undergo change. If we are to view each predicament as a part of a certain process, then we would be able to act based on what is needed to help in the completion of the process.

Mebilad patingapun ‘nya mau ya i Mappi
Mengaring Sahara ing akmulan na king langi
Kayumanggi nang balat migkule neng suklati
Susun-susun ing kayang panimanman king páli

Linibut ne ing balen bang manakit ayinum
Ambuski king gintu e na ‘paglibe ing danum
Karas king iskuela kaban atin yang apantun
Oneng yelu ing laman na, e man dugu danum

Mine ya munisipyu’t mengutang karing tau
Nung ninu ing makapagdaun saup king mau
Ing pekapun a opisyal iya’ng karelang tildu
Dapot yelu mu naman ing abiye ning taksiapu

King pisamban melili ya ing malangi batal
Ing buntuk nang mapáli, ay Dios ku, mákakintal
Ikit ne ing pari’t kaya pinulandit samal

Kinatuk ya i Mappi karing siping nang bale
King pagal at maung bili kas’wala neng mete
Ding anggang anyaranan danum, nu ya man ume
“Nanan ku rugu ing yelu?” ing gagkas nang pane

Manibat pang nandin abak mau ne i Mappi
Merunut pang-asa inya karela minuli
Kapunta kusina ikit ne ing kayang Atsi
Ayba! Miminum yang danum ing dibpan ning alti

Kitnan neng Mappi nung nu na ibat ing ínuman
“Iskuela, munisipyu, ampo na king pisamban
Balen at karing taung king radyu mákiramdam”
Ngana ning babaing mataluras na akmulan

“Inayan ku la’ rin oneng yelu ing babiye ra”
I Mapping mákalunus ita ing kayang istorya
“Yelu mu rin, wali ku, ing kaku inabut da
‘Nya pangatuno ring yelu kakung penenaya

Akalinguan mung king danum gawa ing yelu?”
Kutang nang Atsi nang Mapping nandin pa mipasno
“Nung tinipun mo ring yelu’t kekang pepalaso
Mekayinum ka sa’t mekapainawa, ali mo?”
